“In sweet communion and blessed fellowship we stand here as Your body. Hear us as we lift our voice and be pleased with our songs of praise…” from the song Sweet Communion.
Matt and Joanna are in(ter)dependent artists/worship leaders based out of Elizabethtown, KY. Their ministry Sweet Communion Music, a dept. of Artists in Christian Testimony Intl., was birthed in 2003 out of the experiences they had to serve as volunteers in the local church, and grew as they saw opportunities to share their music and stories with outside groups and congregations. For 7 years of their journey, Matt was the associate pastor and director of worship and arts at The Bridge Community in Elizabethtown. He stepped out of this staff position in early 2013 to concentrate full-time on this ministry with Joanna.
Their mission is to share and create compelling music that draws people closer to Jesus and encourages people to be on mission with Him in their daily lives. In addition to concert performances and worship leadership, they love to speak into the lives of artists and worship teams, and to reach outside of church walls to people who need to find hope in the message of the Gospel.
Matt and Joanna’s music is marked by their interchangeable lead and background harmonies, guitar/cello arrangements, encouraging messages, and sometimes a crazy sense of humor. Their most recent acoustic EP “Antiques Part 1” contains a mixture of hymns both old and new and features the song The Grace Parade co-written with singer-songwriter James Tealy who’s had songs recorded by artists Kari Jobe, Matt Papa, Josh Wilson, and others. This album was created with a hope to bridge generations and to explore more deeply God’s mission to redeem and restore the broken hearts of the world. Their two albums, “Sweet Communion” and “Unless the Lord”, contain songs of worship along with songs that share stories of life experience. The song “Your Love” written by Matt and sung by Joanna was featured on the 2004 Centrifuge Worship Compilation Album “Befriended” along with other artists such as Matt Redmond, Tim Hughes, and Jami Smith. “Unless the Lord” was produced in the spring of 2005 by Jason Kyle (Co-producer and engineer for the group Selah).
